Everything old is new again! ThirdVoice tried this in 1999: http://archive.wired.com/science... (For the record, I think it's good to revisit all ideas in technology every 5 years or so, as the components, behaviors, and ecosystem changes...)

@cenedella Fleck, by The Next Web guys, tried this too about 5 years ago.

Zurf is not another "web annotation" tool guys. Zurf is a new messaging app that enables discussions about items. Zurf is primarily for those who send hundreds of texts with links to their friends to suggest something or seek feedback. Texting a link is cumbersome, shows the message in a different app than the item itself and retrieving an item is hard as your text gets drown in a sea of other texts. Zurf is simple to use, fun and organizes items by category, sender or website. Zurfers are the coolest people. Become one!

Mobile web browser that lets you leave a “sticky note” or zNote for friends on any item on any website. Your friends can then add comments right on your note.

Looks interesting. Would like to see this as a Chrome extension, as well.
