I spent two years building a tool that ranked well on Google for an audience that turned out to have no money: a formatting tool for a gaming community, mostly teenagers. Three paying supporters in two years. The lesson was that the skill wasn't the problem, the audience was. YearJersey is the same build-and-rank playbook pointed at gift shoppers. The itch it scratches: "what jersey came out the year X was born?" Type a year and it pulls that season's jerseys live from eBay, across every league. Championship throwbacks and deep cuts work the same way. The build stayed deliberately simple: no accounts, no app, pages rendered at the edge, results cached for half an hour so they stay fresh. Outside the US it routes to your local eBay with local prices. The hardest part was noise: a bare "1994 jersey" search on eBay returns toy cows and books about New Jersey, so a lot of the work was filtering down to actual sports jerseys. Being upfront: the eBay links are affiliate links, that's the whole business model. No ads, nothing to buy from me. What I most want to hear: what's missing for collectors? Size filters, authentic vs replica, era? That feedback decides what gets built next.
