First of all, it is an open and fairly flexible product that can be adapted to different needs and usage scenarios.

Next, for basic tasks, it is quite easy to use, while leaving space for more complex configurations and customization, which at start could be challenged. However, both community support and professional support may provide assistance in those cases.

Lastly, important positive aspect is that the product is actively supported and regularly updated. New versions contain not only new functionality and bug fixes, but also updates related to security and the elimination of known vulnerabilities.

Some complex or long-known problems remain unresolved even in new releases.

vs Alternatives

Open source app that allows you to evolve from simply documentation into an application without moving the data elsewhere. And simply pages are not simply pages, those are special pages that brings result to users. Huge library of extensions or macros that can simply replace need of developing and use already existent functionality.

XWiki's greatness comes from its extensibility. You can relatively easily make the tool fit most, if not all of your needs with either community, or custom-made extensions. XWiki can be used as a knowledge base, a task manager, a CRM, a CMS, a public facing website, a public or private documentation, a customer portal, and a bunch of other stuff.

While XWiki has been making progress in these areas, the main improvements would be with the user interface, the consistency of how macros behave, installation & upgrades could be easier to do, and the documentation sometimes feels too technical.

vs Alternatives

XWiki is open-source, and can be self-hostable. When you choose XWiki, you're choosing data sovereignty at the same time. There's no vendor lock-in.

The possibilities are virtually endless regarding the customization: since this is an open-source project that you can self-host, you can make it look (or even work) in whatever way you want. It is just like a swiss knife centered around organizing your information

If you are willing to invest quite some time into learning, then the experience will become smoother and smoother and eventually a joy. Generally you can find step by step solutions for most pf the problems that you might encounter, but usually you have to know where to look for these said solutions
