x402 revives the original “HTTP 402 Payment Required” status code to allow bots, agents, and apps to pay-per-call using stablecoins—no API keys, no human-in-the-loop setup required. Make any API or MCP server accessible to agents without human config.

This is smart — not sure if it's the right solution, but IIRC @bradfitz had been trying to solve for HTTP 402 for years.
Smart for Coinbase to take this on — and provide a payment mechanism for MCP and bot APIs (among other things)!
