Hi Product Hunt! I'm George and Workproof is my first launch. I built it on my own.
A bit of backstory. In interviews I kept seeing inflated CVs, projects candidates couldn't back up once we went through them, and now and then straight-up fiction. An ATS only reads what a CV says: a polished one gets through, whilst a qualified candidate with a plain one can get filtered out. The gaps only show up in the interview, when everyone's time is already spent.
A CV is all claims: the role, the company, the projects. The reader has to take your word for it, and AI now writes a convincing one in a minute.
The honest candidates pay for that. Their CV reads the same as the inflated ones, so it gets the same doubt. I kept thinking there must be some form of hard validation.
So Workproof checks the facts a machine can actually check, and each proof says exactly what it shows:
- DNS record: you could change that domain's settings
- Meta tag: you could edit that website
- Work email: you had an address at that domain (it emails a one-time link, you click it)
- Reference: written by a named person, from a work address Workproof confirmed
Every proof carries the date it passed and stays after the contract or the job ends. Your access to a client's DNS usually goes when the project does. The evidence doesn't have to. It all sits on one link you own, and a client or recruiter can read it without an account.
What it isn't: proof that you built the site or held the job, a portfolio builder, a score, or another LinkedIn. Domain verification simply establishes that whoever controls the domain trusted you enough to grant you access. For most teams, that's good enough as a baseline proof of association before an interview. As for what you actually contributed, that's where references come in.
I'm starting with freelance developers and indie builders, because a domain proof is the strongest thing Workproof shows, and while the record stays up anyone can re-run it with dig. It's free.
What's next: domains and work email are only the start. I'm looking at more things that can serve as proof, and at ways to show the scale behind one. That would add context, never a ranking: access to a site with a million visitors says something different from access to one that's just getting started, and both belong on your profile. I'm also looking at one-click DNS setup, so you approve the record with your DNS provider instead of copying a code.
I'd love your honest take, on two things most of all:
- If you hire: would a link like this on a CV or a proposal change anything for you?
- If you freelance or build: which of those would you want first, or what else should Workproof check?
Thanks for having a look!
