Apologies in advance for the stereotypical "X for Y" but the alternative tagline could be "HotelsTonight for dates." You have to be on the mobile web to access the app (they say a native app is coming). At 4:30pm each day, those that "check in" are notified of a potential date for that night, very similar to Coffee Meets Bagel's daily matches.

@rrhoover lol. Dates are expiring inventory. Also, interesting Q: who is the right target for "X for Y" descriptions. Investors are sick of it. Perhaps users who see a lot of early products appreciate the mental shortcuts? PH probably has some great data around this that could be mined.
Ryan Hoover
@EAWharton I'd love to see an analysis of PH data. "X for Y" isn't always a bad shortcut and really depends on the audience.

Good twist in a crowded space. I don't know if it can take off but "on-demand" dating isn't a bad way to go.
Eve Peters
@rrhoover in fact that IS our alternate tagline! @benparr Thanks for the comment! The way we see it, Tinder took off and it's a rather ineffectual method of getting dates compared to what's possible via Whim.
Ryan Hoover
@evecpeters it's interesting you went mobile web-first. I have my assumptions but why not build a native app, desktop web, or even start with email?
Kevin Chau
Ha, @mbleigh would like this only for the fact that it's mobile-web first. Otherwise, he's married ladies.
Roman Sidorenko
good luck with Whim @evecpeters! I'm happy to see more spontaneous and simple dating services on the market
