Most OCR and "PDF-to-Excel" tools are web apps, your documents go to someone's server. VadeKit runs the whole pipeline on your machine. Drop a scanned PDF: on-device OCR extracts the text, layout and tables. Each table opens as a spreadsheet with formulas. Query across files with an offline SQL engine, chart it, and export a PDF report, no uploads. One toolkit, organised by task not by the library that powers it. No telemetry, no AI API. A while back I kept hitting the same wall: a pile of scanned invoices and reports to turn into spreadsheets, and every decent OCR or "PDF to Excel" tool wanted me to upload the files to their server first. For documents with names, addresses and financial figures on them, that never sat right.
So the workflow became one site for OCR, another for splitting PDFs, a desktop app for the spreadsheet, something else for the chart - ten tabs to do one task.
VadeKit is my attempt at collapsing that into a single local app. You tell it what you want ("extract tables & insights from PDF"), drop the file, and it runs the whole chain on your CPU: OCR → an editable table → SQL if you need it → a report. Nothing leaves the machine.
The hardest part was resisting the urge to bolt on an AI API for the "insights" step. I kept it as honest arithmetic - counts, shares, averages - so "runs entirely on your device" stays literally true.
