Vaccination locations sometimes have unused, extra doses of COVID vaccine they must either use or throw out. We give providers like pharmacies or clinics with leftover doses a way to reach nearby people looking to get vaccinated on a moment's notice.
@ianmacartney and I built vaxstandby.com to reduce COVID vaccine waste, reduce unnecessary lines and crowds at stores, reduce misinformation of leftovers, and allow as many people as possible to take advantage of leftover doses.
As we gather signups, we'll be running pilot tests with providers and rolling out the service more broadly. Without any promotion, we already have tens of thousands of signups across all 50 states.
We are seeking funding to cover expenses as well as vaccine providers and pharmacy retailers willing to partner.
@bogdan_ionita I appreciate the thought. We're focused on the US for now, and after things subside here, we will assess whether it makes sense to work in other countries.

This is so useful! I'm curious if there is any data available on vaccine leftovers by region? Would be cool to build a probabilistic model to tell upi where you might have the highest chance of getting the leftovers.
Fantastic idea, @jimmychion and @ianmacartney.
@suzywillow and I were just chatting with a few friends about this topic. Just signed up! We're eager to get vaccinated so we don't have to worry as much about traveling, but we don't want to take a spot from anyone that's in greater need (e.g. elderly or those with health conditions).

THANK YOUUU!! I literally was telling my family last week, it makes 0 sense that they are tossing out vaccines. It's 2020, an app that has a waiting list would be SO HELPFUL! You are awesome!
