What do you think? …

Gleb Sabirzyanov
Whaat? Woooo this is awesome! How does it work though? Cookies?
Joel Benjamin
@gleb_sabirzyanov nope, the content is stored in local storage
Gleb Sabirzyanov
@harowitzblack but if I reload the page — the text stays in place. What kind of local storage is that?
Joel Benjamin
@gleb_sabirzyanov just like cookies, the data stored in it is persistent. It might have some expiration data tho, maybe like 2 years.

This might get the award for the most simple product of all Product Hunt time.

@rrhoover ProductHunt awards!! That should absolutely be a thing. Please make that a thing.
Jonathan Howard
The awards could come with badges of honor. And with very little code, the badges could show on the product page, the profile page of the user who submitted it, and an "all awards" page.

@staringispolite haha, the gaming side of you is coming out. I think there are a ton of interesting opportunities here with more data and structure/categorization.
Jonathan Howard
(Looks like it uses Browsers' LocalStorage)
Jonathan Howard
Yes it is :) But I think it makes sense in this case, as there's a kind of social caché associated already, with hunting the best products. Rewarding that existing behavior (and perhaps even guiding it with certain category awards) makes sense to me more than badges would for a different site. I also think the "awards" idea adds a higher level of guidance that's not time-sensitive. Replace products with movies, and ProductHunt is similar to the box office leaderboards. But when the Oscars nominations come out, you can suddenly browse in a very different way. Agreed on structure/categorization representing many different opportunities.
