I started playing golf in high school and fell in love with it, but I was terrible. I'd go to the range, film my swing, watch it back, and think "I have no idea what I'm even looking at." I couldn't tell if I was getting better or just grooving the same bad habits over and over. Lessons helped when I could get them, but $100+ an hour meant I was mostly on my own between sessions, guessing.
That frustration is what made me want to build something. I wasn't the best at coding, so I taught myself. Spent six months in my UCLA dorm learning Swift and computer vision from YouTube and documentation, failing constantly, rebuilding things from scratch. There were a lot of nights where I thought this was way over my head. But I kept going because I knew how badly I wanted this tool to exist.
The result is Swing Sensei. You film your swing, the AI analyzes 12 checkpoints, and you get a score out of 10 with clear feedback on what to fix. Everything runs on your iPhone, nothing gets uploaded anywhere.
The coolest thing that's happened since launching is a PGA teaching pro at Chambers Bay (US Open venue) reached out and is now filming drill videos for the app and using it with his junior golfers. That blew my mind. I've also been scoring pro golfers on TikTok and Rory McIlroy got an 8.8, Tiger Woods 8.4, Scottie Scheffler 7.7. Nobody's gotten a perfect 10 yet.
This is my first app, I built it completely solo, and it's hit 10,000+ downloads with zero ad spend. I'm honestly just grateful anyone is using it at all. Would love to hear what you think and what you'd want to see next!
