This will 100% get abused. Did you follow what happened recently on Shopify? The original on your website was itself a copycat of shipfa.st . So you took down a website for nothing. I don't mean this as a personal attack, but I think this is a terrible thing to build and you might be opening yourself up to liability for taking down websites that should have never been taken down.

@fabrice_mayrand @fabrice_mayrand Hello Fabrice, that’s why we have a verification process in place. We’re simply making it easier to report a copycat. We’ll ensure that copycats cannot report the original creators. The original it was not a copycat of shipfa.st. Juanjo bought Shipfa.st and thats why the landing page looks similar. The landing page components come with the shipfa.st boiler plate. The copycat was related with the product, someone bought wrapfa.st (that is for iOS, not like shipfa.st) and started reselling it. Additionally, I will always be responsible for my actions, so please don’t worry about that.

@jacinto_fleta So your customer used a template and then someone made something similar to the template and you took their website down. How can you possibly claim ownership of the template? The request should of came from Marc (the original template creator). Even if it did come from him, I'm not sure this would hold up.

@fabrice_mayrand it was not because of the landing page. It was the product inside, the copycat was selling (reselling) my customer's product. Is like if I buy a book, and then I change the cover a little bit and put my name and sell the book as mine.

@jacinto_fleta If they are actually reselling a product they don't own, I agree with you but how are you verifying that the product that the offender is offering is the same as the one your client claims to own? Do you buy the product to verify? Everything on your landing page makes it look like you took down the website for the design, I didn't see anything relating to product theft on your website, which would be a clearer thing to go after.

This is a truly incredible idea! All I can ever think about when sharing my idea in public groups is if someone is going to scalp the domain name, or copyright something before I can get to it. I do have a few questions though. When you say that you take legal action against these copycats, what does this entail? Do you have some sort of team, or is it just you? Also, does heavy use of AI in a copycat process affect the legal action you can take? For example, if someone had a similar idea as me for a product, and simply asked AI to make a website, which turned out to look very much like mine, and offer similar services, there is a world where they had no idea about this. How do you deal with something like that? Thanks.

@zachary_ferioli Hello zachary we actually base all the inquiries on a law called DMCA to protect intellectual property of digital assets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Di... We don't have a legal team for this we just ensure that the takedown request is valid according to DMCA criteria and make it reach to all the implied parts website owners, server provider and domain registrar. What you mentioned of having a similar idea is not considered copycatting, i like to quote @dannypostma on this as his description is pretty accurate: Competition = Same idea, same market, but; [ unique ] branding, features & communication (copy, visuals etc). A [ unique ] take on what’s out there. Copycat = Same idea, same market, but; [ stolen ] branding, features & communication. An exact [ replica ] of what’s out there. Nevertheless each case should be evaluated separately.

That's great. A while back I authored and was selling a .PDF that got jacked and published, and it definitely hurt my sales. I could have used a tool like this again. What about assisting in notifying Google for URL removal? .. Does your product assist with this as well?

@rowemore So sad to hear that. We actually go directly to the source our idea is to remove it on the origin Server provider, domain registar... Nevertheless adding extra providers to push this harder would be a great idea thinking on facebook (people doing ads), google (search and ads)... Thanks for your feedback.
