Another cool project from Zooniverse! In the Victorian era, people didn't have cameras and computers, so they had to draw what they saw. These constraints often led to scientists and members of the public (eg artists) working together to further scientific discovery. These drawings would appear in Victorian era publications, showcasing exotic species and such (which would then further citizen interest in science).
"Science Gossip" was one such Victorian publication. The .org of the same name is mapping the origins of citizen science by categorizing these old timey images.
Next time you have a lunch break to fill, do some exploring through Ye Olde Illustrations and help out scientists at the same time.
