Rootd is panic attack & anxiety relief right in your pocket. This female-founded app blends engaging design with lessons and exercises (like a panic button, deep breathing tool, and guided visualizations), to help users find immediate and long term relief from anxiety and panic attacks.

is this a mental health-focused app on bell let's talk day? that's super, super cool - and it's even better that it's such a well-designed product. i'm curious about the mascot... why a blue monster??
@ebethjanna Totally! The blue monster, named Ron, was something I designed when I was feeling really frustrated with anxiety one day. When I look back on it now I see there's a metaphorical connection of him being a monster and anxiety being the "monster inside of us". At the time, though, I just wanted to create something that depicted my mood, was cute and soft (despite the sharp teeth) and made me laugh. I hoped he would do the same for others. Thanks for the feedback on the design 😁

@ebethjanna@ania_wysocka One thing I miss after switching to Android is that I can't use the Rootd iMessage app to send Ron stickers anymore. Too funny.
@chrystal_boyd Thanks Chrystal! We first launched the MVP as the panic button (which we dub the Rootr) the lessons on understanding anxiety, changes you can make in the short term to curb anxiety, and changes you can make in the long term. Since then we've added the deep breathing tool, the active meditation tool, imessage stickers, an updated stats page, and nature sounds. WHEW. It's been a time - stoked on this launch and ready for more people to be able to enjoy and interact with it now.

Great find, love the concept and certainly a vertical that warrants more attention. Having all these frameworks, lessons and mental models tailored to the user's current situation is going to have a positive impact. @ania_wysocka whats behind the name Rootr?
@dan8arton Thanks Dan! Rootd comes from the idea of being 'rooted' as in 'grounded'. When I think of being really rooted in something I think of a tree with plenty of roots beneath the ground, keeping it sturdy no matter the weather. Hopefully Rootd helps some people feel like that 😄

@ania_wysocka just curious, why did you create this app? what made you wanna help people with panic attacks? and how long did it take you to develop Rootd?
@alon_keren Hi Alon! I created Rootd due to personal experience of not being able to find something that worked well + had great design. It took around 2 years to get Rootd to this point. During that time new apps in the mental health space started coming out but I still wanted to follow through with the vision of Rootd because I think they/we all are unique in our approaches.

@ania_wysocka great to see this out in the wild :) any plans for a corporate wellness plan integrations / company-wide offering?
@julianjayrhind Yes! We just started offering company plans that allow employers to provide full Rootd memberships for their employees. It's really neat to see companies starting the conversation and wanting to demonstrate care for employee mental health.

I use the deep breathing exercise often - it's both calming and great daily practice. Congrats on making a beautiful app.
Pros:
- The breathing exercise is very calming
- The blue monster is hilarious and mood-boosting
- A comprehensive yet accessible resource
Cons:
- Not so much a con, but it would be nice if more languages were supported

Practical help for anxiety is now at hand, wherever you are. Beautifully designed and illustrated. If mobile vendors are pre-installing social media apps on their phones, then they should pre-install this app too as a counter-measure.
@paul47insights That's a valid point, Paul! Rootd has a lesson in the app specifically about social media induced anxiety. Thanks for the feedback on the design, too. 😊
