Like DoorDash for Internet trolls, Rent-a-Hater is a digital marketplace where users can pay what they want for other users to send memes, jokes, roasts, and taunts (within ToS guidelines) to a publicly accessible recipient. Now, US-based 18+ users have a fun new way to make a few extra bucks online! While the platform is fully functional, the platform is also meant as a commentary on the predatory nature of gig economy and rental companies, turning those who rely on them into "haters".

Rent-a-Hater came from the idea that people struggling today are victims of predatory systems on both ends of the consumerism spectrum. While full-time employment is a challenge for many, the gig economy is run by companies adopting increasingly worker-hostile practices in the interest of shareholder value. Similarly, the companies offering affordable appliances or furnishings are taking advantage of those unable to purchase those items outright. When it feels like every element of the system is working together to keep you down, it makes sense to be angry. This is where Rent-a-Hater came in: a gig economy digital marketplace, heavily inspired by a familiar rental company, fueled by anger (not really though, actual threats and hate comments are strictly against the ToS).
