Easily convert natural language to RegEx using AI

Let's be honest, none of us actually understand regular expressions. And if you say: "Yes, I do", well, you're lying. Let us help you generate the RegEx you need. Just type in what pattern you're looking for, using natural language. The AI will do the rest

David Fernández
Hey Hunters! 👋🏽 My name is David and I've been a fullstack developer for the last 6 years. In my day-to-day work I am constantly struggling with regular expressions. They are DIFFICULT, I don't think anyone can argue with that. I noticed I was time after time going to ChatGPT and asking: "Hey, act like a regex expert and give me a regular expression for blablabla...". So I decided to build RegexBot to simplify this process. 👉🏽 Ask the AI what pattern you need, using natural language 👉🏽 Need inspiration? Use the provided suggestions 👉🏽 Press "Enter" or the arrow button to generate the regular expression 👉🏽 Easily copy the RegEx to your clipboard 👉🏽 Open RegExr to test it 🚀 I hope this is useful for you and let me know any feedback you may have! Cheers 😄 You can follow me on X where I share my building in public journey

@a_zelenkov Thank you for your kind words and support! I'm also excited to see that RegexBot is useful for people

Hey @dfodev really helpful tool 👏🏻 I'm constantly using regex in my application so this is a huge time saver. Especially as you say, always entering the prompt intro with "act like a regex expert" is so boring and repetitive. Would be nice if you could also add a regex tester to remove another step and be able to test the regex directly against different examples. Great to see people building such cool tools in the public. Congrats on the launch 🚀

@crebuh thank you for your feedback and the kind words!! That’s a great idea, BTW! I just wanted to focus on one key feature and implement the most simple UI. But yes, allowing the user to test the RegEx directly in the same app is a huge improvement, I will consider it 😄

Hey David, How accurate is the AI at generating complex regex patterns? Does it provide any explanations of the regex it generates to help users learn? Congrats on the launch!
David Fernández
@kyrylosilin I've tried several complex patterns and in my opinion its performance is great. Of course it's not perfect but I think AI does a good job in general with this kind of tasks. It does not provide any explanation but that would be a great improvement! I will consider it. Thank you for your support! ❤️

Interesting. What are the possible use cases for this for users in analytics (non-developer users)
David Fernández
@mallikarjun_reddy3 I build this tool thinking primarily in developers, but there's also room for analytics and data engineers as well. For example the first use case that comes to my mind is pattern matching in data: you can identify and extract patterns like phone numbers, emails, dates, or specific text formats from large datasets without needing to understand RegEx. Or another use case could be bulk editing: in tools like Excel or Google Sheets users can find and replace text across large datasets based on complex patterns (e.g., replacing all instances of a certain date format or correcting formatting issues). Let me know if you can think of another scenario where this could be useful

Thanks for sharing this ! I can’t wait to start using it in my projects. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!
David Fernández
@amensa_hulk I’g glad you find it useful!! Thanks for your support

Tools that are easy to understand and use are my favorite. RegexBot nails both. I tried it out and it's a good experience. It gave me the output I expected when I tried to match valid emails. Then when I asked it to match emails + filter out common spam emails, it told me to specify spam further. Great user experience that doesn't leave me hanging and helps me achieve my goal - which is not having to write Regex anymore haha. Great job!
David Fernández
@shashank_sanjay wow that’s something I hadn’t expected! So in the end it’s like a chatbot focused on RegEx. Very interesting! Thank you for your comment!

Haha love the first part of the description "Let's be honest, none of us actually understand regular expressions". I can resonate - whenever I use regex I have to look the syntax up and it's very annoying. I tried out testing 'match a url with the domain meow.com and query parameter test=true' and it worked!! Great job on the tool 👏
David Fernández
@cameron_napoli thank you for your support! Haha I think everybody can relate to that 😂
