Hey friends! I'm Richard co-founder of reconfigured - an AI-assisted journaling style note-taking app for analysts Working with data is closer to being a detective than a software engineer. Most of the time you can’t predict the exact steps needed to solve a problem, let alone what the end-result will be. What matters most is the discoveries you make along the way - trials and errors, nuances, your thought process. These are almost always scribbles in your notebook, digital or physical. Our goal is to give analysts a tool that makes it incredibly easy to track your data quests and make that knowledge accessible to colleagues. If you’re ever played games like Skyrim or Fallout, you’ll find the UI and mechanics very familiar. Hence the word quests. :) The app is very much modelled after quest journals: - Quests have a loose title and summary - You usually have one quest active at a time - New todos and steps are uncovered as you progress Some highlight features that our users love: - Hotkeys - show/hide journal with a button, directly add notes to active quests with another. - In addition to written notes, adding screenshots, automatic code highlight and voice notes - Chat with your thought process - the embedded AI let’s you discuss your findings, sort through them or remind you what were you thinking in the past. We’re an early-stage startup from Helsinki, Finland and after a hard pivot we’re finally launching our new product. It’s free to use, with upgrade options for extra functionality and teams. Our ambition is to create a JIRA alternative that isn’t centered around tickets, cards and points - but rather connected journals. We’re building this with data/analytics teams’ workflows in mind, but feedback has been that this could fit other, research-heavy type of work, e.g. product discovery, user research, academic work, even journalism.

@thesnappingdog Great to see this launch! reconfigured addresses so many of the critical use-cases Analysts face in their day-to-day.

@sonu_goswami2 we try our best! Really been trying to listen to how analytics folk work, and understand how we can best support that workflow vs. impose a new structure :-)
Richard Makara
@geoff_camden appreciate your support!!

I have known Richard on LinkedIn for a couple of years. Last year, when he built Reconfigured, an improved version of a data warehouse, they had to pull the plug. But it is great to see that your baby has restarted. Some questions: A) Are there plans to have the core functionality in the web app as well? B) I couldn't find a place where I could integrate my on DB, as the API section is not open for FREE tier, it is supposed to only work as overlay? Neat design, although the UX isn't as simple, for me as possible. Because the speed to value journey is very long. If you start with connecting you DB, and then you can just call the DB with a chat, that would directly be more helpful. Good luck with the launch! 🚀

@jas801 we're aiming to bring some of the core functionality also to the web, but right now as global short keys is big part of the core experience we've been focused on the native app. But the good thing is that the GUI both in web and native is React, so _should_ be easy. Just needs some time. Right now the API is only to read data of reconfigured, like listing all the quests and their activities. But, we plan to implement integrations to pull data from different sources to enrich the context. And also to push data out, like be it integration with Slack or your project management tool.

I’ve known Richard for a while now and I absolutely love what the team has built at reconfigured. It’s how I stay sane as my mind often runs wild with ideas and next steps. Also, they’re extremely proactive with their support which is always a MASSIVE plus in today’s SaaS world.
Niko Korvenlaita
@svikashk thanks for the kind words. We try to stay as close with our users, we believe that support is not a, well, support function, it's core part of how we engage with you all
Richard Makara
@svikashk 🫶 thank you, love to hear that - quite literally designed to _not_ limit your curiosity. :-) and yes, y'all please come yell at us over on in-app chat 💪

love it! Can’t wait to see all the future updates. Good luck on the launch, guys 🚀

I’ve been using Reconfigured for my data projects, and it’s become my “brain dump” companion for capturing quick insights during exploratory analysis and modeling. No more tab-hopping or losing track of ideas—Reconfigured keeps everything organized in one place. I also believe that building a solid knowledge base is crucial for leveraging AI use cases in your organization. Reconfigured lays the foundation for that. Super interested to see where this project is going—especially regarding: 1. Integration with other workflow and data tools (e.g., direct access to a DB or traditional documentation systems). 2. The fundamental question: How do you motivate people to take notes as often as possible? I think Richard and Niko have plenty of great ideas to solve this.
Niko Korvenlaita
@jan_nitschke oh yeah, how to gamify and motivate people is the core-core thing we're really focused on. The integrations are way more straight forward thing to add. And yes, the integrations will come, just needs more time to make them! And thanks for the kind words!
Richard Makara
@jan_nitschke brain dump companion - love it! And luckily, those brain dumps are associated to questions/quests you are working on :-) it will definitely be super interesting when we get to integrations, both for project tooling but also for the data stack - eg being able to see and tag context against metadata from your data warehouse.

Very cool. I would like to theme my Quests for Monkey Island please. Pirates and insults.
Niko Korvenlaita
@major_grooves I promise when we get a bigger team I'll dedicate part of it just for themes!
Richard Makara
@major_grooves haha for sure. One day we'll also have to bring in the "boring mode" - onboarding where you get to select "quests (=fun) OR tasks (=boring)" 😂 and naturally community developed themes.

Neat demo, Richard! The app seems to be designed for data analyst, but through the demo, I find that it would work for almost any genre of knowledge worker. Heck, even I could use it for my work! Would be really nice to see more integrations that clearly indicate that it's specifically for data analysts workflow. Excited to see where this develops!
Niko Korvenlaita
@hai_ta1 yes! The core product can work on any kind of knowledge worker. We decided to go with data analysts first, as that helps us prioritize our first batch of integrations we're going to build. We've had like actual researcher using the tool as note helper when doing literacy review. And in the long term we most definitely will expand! Need to first build amazing tool for single group of users
Sam @CRANQ
Wow this is looking great, I have to say I love the idea that we're setting ourselves quests when we're using this!! The UI looks great & easy to use, plus bringing up the bar for taking notes, I like the layout & the simplicity. Best of luck w/ the Launch to you, Richard & Niko!!
Niko Korvenlaita
@cranqnow thanks! Especially on the UI comment, as I feel that the biggest thing that matters is how easy and convenient can we make this. Something that truly feels like extension of your self
Sam @CRANQ
@nipsuli Exactly, as a customer & user, that's the sort of thing I'm looking out for :))
Richard Makara
@cranqnow appreciate it Sam 🫶 it will be interesting to figure out the UI for 'manager mode' - when there's multiple journals that are connected, and for the team lead to be playing fantasy football, while the journal users are essentially playing single/coop player mode
