We came into today hoping to show people a feature. What we got instead was a conversation we'll be thinking about for months. You asked about the difference between word share and meaning share. About what happens when a creator's archive contradicts itself across three years. About whether proof changes behavior even when nobody checks it. These are the questions we ask ourselves in private, and hearing them from you means this launch found the right room. Genuinely impressed by some of the deep-level thoughts!
A few things happened today because of you. Several ideas went straight onto our whiteboard, including a meaning-level indicator and timeline-aware contradiction flagging, both born in these comments. And some of our creators came by to speak for their own books, which moved us more than any ranking could.
One more sign we're onto something 🖖 This same week, Substack launched AI transparency tools of its own: readers can now scan any post to see how much was written by hand, and writers are publishing "How I make this" statements about their process. Dozens of writers, each drawing their own line, all agreeing that readers deserve to know how the work was made. Different corner of publishing, same conclusion we bet this launch on: the "trust us" is ending, and "see for yourself" is taking its place. Their write-up (published TODAY!
