Potageny started as a simple solo planner: annual calendar, rows, companion planting based on permaculture rules. Building the app made it clear that gardening is rarely a solitary activity, hence the progressive addition of a real community layer: shared gardens, seed swaps and giveaways, mentors, educational gardens. We also added weather and contextual alerts once we saw the real difficulty wasn't planning, it was knowing when to act: water, sow, harvest, at the right moment. Full offline mode came from noticing you often garden... in the garden, without network.
Then, that a garden is also told through images. We first added simple, freeform photo capture, to sort later. But we quickly realized the real problem wasn't taking photos: it was never thinking of it at the right moment, then forgetting which photo matched which plant six months later. So we built a guided garden tour, row by row: the app walks you through it, asks which plant in the row you're photographing, and files everything in the right place automatically. A monthly reminder gently nudges the habit. Result: a real visual history of the garden, season after season, with no after-the-fact sorting effort.

Au départ, Potageny était pensé comme un simple planificateur solo : calendrier annuel, rangs, associations de plantes selon les règles de permaculture. En construisant l'app, il est devenu clair que jardiner est rarement une activité solitaire, d'où l'ajout progressif d'une vraie couche communautaire : jardins partagés, dons et trocs de graines, tuteurs, jardins pédagogiques. On a aussi ajouté la météo et les alertes contextualisées une fois qu'on a vu que la vraie difficulté n'était pas de planifier, mais de savoir quand agir : arroser, semer, récolter, au bon moment. Le mode hors ligne complet est venu du constat qu'on jardine souvent... au jardin, sans réseau.
Ensuite, qu'un jardin se raconte aussi en images. On a d'abord ajouté une capture photo simple, en vrac, à trier plus tard. Mais on s'est vite rendu compte que le vrai problème n'était pas de prendre des photos : c'était de ne jamais y penser au bon moment, puis d'oublier quelle photo correspondait à quelle plante six mois après. On a donc construit un tour du jardin guidé, rang par rang : l'app vous accompagne, vous demande quelle plante du rang vous photographiez, et range tout au bon endroit automatiquement. Un rappel mensuel relance doucement l'habitude. Résultat : un vrai historique visuel du jardin, saison après saison, sans effort de tri après coup.
