Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Farhad, the maker behind Play Saver. The Inspiration: Like many of you here, I’m obsessed with optimizing my time. I have a habit of watching coding tutorials, courses, and long podcasts at 1.5x or 2x speed. I always knew it was a great productivity hack, but recently I got curious about the actual math: Exactly how much of my life am I getting back? Is it just a few hours a month, or entire days over a year? I couldn't find a simple tool to calculate this, so I built Play Saver to scratch my own itch. What it does: Play Saver is an ultra-lightweight (~32KB) Chrome extension that sits quietly in the background. Whenever you watch a video at a faster playback speed on almost any platform (YouTube, Coursera, Vimeo, etc.), it automatically calculates your "reclaimed time" down to the exact second. A few things I prioritized while building it: Real-time feedback: It features an optional live on-screen overlay so you can watch the seconds you are saving tick up in real-time. It’s a great little dopamine hit to keep you motivated during long courses! Zero bloat: I wanted it to be frictionless, so it uses practically zero browser resources. 100% Privacy: All the math and tracking happens strictly locally on your machine. I don't collect or see any of your data. This is my very first time officially launching a Chrome extension, and I'm really excited to share it with this community.
