The Atlantic is reporting that this program found a star that either has an extremely rare natural phenomenon or... something built by an alien civilization. (As in, they actually formally talked about that being a possibility). They're proposing resources to look into this star further as soon as January.
Added this to my Citizen Science collection!
This project helps "normal people" help out astro-scientists looking for planets around other stars. You have to look for patterns in the dip from the star's light caused by a planet crossing "in front" of the star from our point of view. This ends up requiring human judgement and can't be done well with algorithms yet.
