I've been learning French as a hobby for a few years, and I recently moved to France which really put my French skills to the test. One thing which I really struggled with during my language journey was the conjugations. With so many different tenses and spellings to learn I very quickly found myself learning & remembering the verb tables, so when I wanted to recall the correct conjugation whilst speaking I would go through the tables in my head (je suis... tu es... il est... vous êtes!) - it didn't feel natural at all!
So I decided to make Phonique to break that pattern.
Phonique introduces tenses in the traditional table structure, and then uses spaced repetition to recall individual conjugations for the user to practice - putting emphasis on recalling the individual conjugations instead of training the brain to traverse the table. If I struggle with a specific article, or a specific tense, Phonique remembers and moves those items to the top of the review queue so that I see them more often than items I already feel comfortable. I can spend my study time really focusing on the items that I struggle with, and less time reviewing what I have already mastered.
I use Phonique daily, and it has greatly improved my own recall and mastery of verbs. It has become a daily companion, and each time I come across a new verb that I don't know out on the streets of France, I open up Phonique to find the verb, learn the tense so that it enters my review queue, and grow my vocabulary.
Phonique is currently focused to English speakers learning French, but I would expand the language localisation to other learners (and also other target languages!) in future versions.
