Peras puts a line in your Claude Code and Codex week. Set it (peras set weekly 85 pause) and once usage crosses it, the agent's next tool call is refused with a plain reason, so one long task can't burn the rest of your week. Resume whenever you want, from the terminal or the menu bar. Opt-in: your agents can be told their own usage. The CLI and hooks are free and MIT. The native Mac menu bar app is €4.99 once.

I kept running out of Claude Code mid-week and got tired of constantly spamming /usage to guess how much a task would eat. So I built a guard. You pick a line, like 85% of the week, and when Claude Code or Codex crosses it, the next tool call is refused with a plain reason. You can resume whenever you want, for an hour or until the reset. It started as a SwiftBar menu. Later I rewrote the menu in native because it gave me more room to customise it. The CLI and hooks are free and MIT. The Mac app is €4.99 once, which is basically paying me to sign and ship it.You can also build it yourself from the repo. The catches: it's macOS only (Linux might work but isn't tested), it's for subscriptions, Codex hooks fail open if the hook itself breaks, and `claude -p` can't be stopped. Curious what % you'd set your line at.

the PreToolUse hook refusing with a reason the agent actually reads is clever, way cleaner than me checking /usage every hour

i'd probably put teh line at 80 on weekdays. can you set a different line for the weekend??? or one per project???

Things already on my list: Linux testing, and Codex hooks that can't block if the hook itself fails (that's a Codex limit, not something Peras can fix yet).
