GPT-6 Astra helped us finish PDF-VC by acting as an end-to-end engineering partner across a large and complex codebase. It could understand the architecture, trace regressions across multiple modules, reason about difficult PDF rendering and export bugs, propose focused fixes, implement them, and then validate the result through automated tests and real-world PDF cases. The biggest value was continuity across long, multi-step development tasks. PDF-VC had reached the point where many remaining issues were not isolated bugs: a change in rendering, text reconstruction, forms, preview, or export could easily break another part of the application. Astra was able to keep the broader system in context, investigate root causes instead of patching symptoms, and iterate until the feature worked without introducing regressions. Hi Product Hunt 👋 I’m Mauro, the maker of PDF-VC. I’m a lawyer, so I work every day with long, complex and often confidential PDF documents. I kept running into the same trade-off: full-featured PDF suites can be complex, while many newer tools are increasingly cloud-first. For sensitive legal and business documents, I wanted a different default: the file should stay on your computer. PDF-VC started as a visual PDF composer for reorganizing and editing documents. Thanks to new LLM (Astra) i rewrote the app. As I began using it on real-world files, it gradually grew into a broader offline PDF workspace: vector text and object editing, multilingual OCR, Bates numbering, permanent redaction, PAdES signature diagnostics, PDF/A, forms, document comparison, preflight and prepress tools. One of the hardest parts has been preserving fidelity between the original PDF, the visual editor and the exported document—especially with complex fonts, forms and unusual PDF structures. That pushed the project toward a “preserve first” approach rather than pretending every PDF object can always be safely edited. PDF-VC v2.0 is now available for Windows, with processing kept local and zero cloud uploads. I’d really appreciate feedback from people who work with large, sensitive or technically complex PDFs.
