@frassmith@producthunt you seem to be taking this product too seriously... Yes, it's an option in iTunes, it's more about making fun of the absurdity of iTunes opening up every time than adjusting the settings :)
@nivo0o0@frassmith@producthunt If this is supposed to be a community of product people, then we should understand that we're not the intended audience for this default behavior. There's a very good chance that your average iPhone and Mac buyer appreciates that the program they use to sync their phone with their computer opens when their phone is plugged in and they don't have to remember what it is, search around the Applications folder and find it every time.
If this were "Power User Hunt" then I'd understand wanting to poke fun at the default behavior as being annoying. But when Apple explicitly went out of their way to include the option to turn it off, your needs as a power user are already catered to.
And for the record: I use iTunes as my main music application and I still have it set not to open automatically when I plug in my phone.

Oh, right, I didn't realise. Maybe you're taking me too seriously. :-)

@elliotronen@nivo0o0@producthunt I agree. If anything (as I've already said elsewhere this evening), this is actually a reflection of Apple's failure. By changing the text of the option, users lost sight of the functionality that the option provided and started looking for solutions to a problem that never existed.
I agree, though, auto launching when I hit play on the function bar still sucks, even if it can be disabled in settings too.
@lasserafn Check out the description of the project, there are so many more reasons why iTunes would launch:
- You connect an iPhone or iPad to your Mac
- You click play/pause while listening to a web-based music player (e.g. SoundCloud)
- You launch iTunes by clicking on the icon by mistake
- Someone sent you a link to an iOS app
- You click on a link on the web, and didn't expect it to be an Music link
- You updated iTunes
- You open a file in Finder, and forgot to change the default app to VLC
