Getting your first startup job is hard. You're competing against people with more experience, and your resume looks like everyone else's.
Openspot gives you a shareable profile with a short video intro, your projects, and some basic analytics – so you can show startups who you are, not just what's on your PDF.
Built for bootcamp grads, career changers, and self-taught developers. Free to use.

Openspot
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I’m Julian, one of the co-founders of Openspot and we’re building a platform born from the frustrations we've all felt with traditional, static resumes and outdated networking platforms.
Let’s be honest:
📉 LinkedIn feels more like Facebook than a hiring / networking platform.
📎 Resumes are just decorated bullet points and aren't built for a competitive job market. How do you get to know someone or stand out through bullet points?
🤝 Networking? Awkward and superficial.
We built Openspot because we were tired of feeling invisible in a sea of sameness.
What makes it hit:
📹 Add a short video or voice intro
🪩 Beautiful profiles that feel human
🎯 Built for standing out, not feeding the content machine
🔍 Recruiters can search you via natural language (yes, really)
🧑🎤 Prompts that help people understand the person behind the profile.
We started this with a simple hack: building personal sites and video resumes that actually worked. Now we’ve turned it into something anyone can use in minutes.
🚀 We hit #1 on Hacker News last week with 450+ comments and wild feedback.
🛠️ We're raw, bootstrapped, and building this for people like us.
If you’ve ever felt overlooked or boxed in by traditional platforms: try Openspot.
We’d love your feedback, your ideas, and yeah… even your roasts.
Let’s make job searching and networking actually human.

@mogabr Thanks so much! really appreciate that!
Yeah, totally agree execution is tough. From our perspective, Peerlist and Polywork are still pretty close to LinkedIn in terms of structure: basic profiles, followers, feed, etc. Just with a slightly more modern coat of paint.
We're trying to go a different route: no social feed, no likes, no “personal brand” pressure, just scrollable, expressive profiles that help you stand out when it matters (especially with optional video/audio).
And yep, we’re already talking to a few early hiring partners to make the network more valuable on both sides 🙌
Would love to hear who you’d go after first if you were us!
@mogabr @fliellerjulian Best of luck sir

@fliellerjulian finally something different! i've had enough of all the BS on linkedin lately, seriously. it's just noise most days ( T_T). openspot looks like a breath of fresh air, maybe a place where you can actually show who you are? not just buzzwords. looks really clean. nice job and congrats on the launch team!!

Excited to see Openspot redefining professional networking! 🚀
As someone tired of LinkedIn’s noise and the rigidity of traditional resumes, Openspot’s focus on authentic, multimedia profiles (videos, audio clips, thoughtful prompts) feels like a breath of fresh air. No more drowning in a sea of bullet points—this platform actually lets professionals show their personality and skills.
Why I’m impressed:
Human-first design: Networking feels less transactional and more meaningful.
Job search made dynamic: Stand out with video/audio snippets instead of static PDFs.
Built by a team that clearly understands modern hiring pain points (Julian’s note about LinkedIn becoming "Facebook for resumes" hits home!).
For anyone craving a no-BS, clutter-free alternative to LinkedIn, Openspot is worth a try. Team—curious: How do you plan to tackle the "cold start" problem of attracting early users?
Congrats on the launch! 👏

Interesting. Linkedin badly needs a competitor. Would like to get in and look around. Too bad it’s not working in Europe.
Any plans/timeline?

@martinmaricak Hey Martin, we are working hard on launching in more countries very soon - we just want to get all the legal and regulatory things right! Cant say and exact date yet, but shouldnt take too long anymore.

@bator_rybdylov Thanks, Bator! We're on it 🫡
Congrats on the HN launch. Here is a little feedback for you.
The value proposition for workers is the claim that they are more likely to get interviews if they present what amounts to a more elaborate resume. That seems to run counter to the traditional advice.
Your AI did not do a good job summarizing my experience from the resume.
I didn't see any data privacy notice while onboarding. I know that it is early days for you but still this is 2025.
The value proposition is directly tied to network effects. Hopefully, you are focusing on employers somewhere else and will start being able to make claims of network size sometime in the future.
Linked In doesn't cater to consultants much. Would that be an opportunity for openspot or does that dilute the brand?
I feel like the job search on LinkedIn works alright but the networking is nightmarish. Curious to see if you can take the Goliath down. Good luck with the launch!
Unrelated question : What tools did you use to make the GIFs on your landing page?

@soso_dotcom Thanks so much, Sophie! We used Adobe After Effects! ◡̈
@kassidycurrey Thank you! I tried using Canva but the final design was disappointing, I'll try After Effects
One question - I signed up because I was interested in a LinkedIn alternative (as LI is basically bots and weird posts now), but why, WHY did I get this "improve your resume" emails from CV companies twice in an hour after signing up?
This doesn't seem very lovely.
