The 'curation' is the easier part, and I am excited to see the engagement windows. It will be interesting to see how you handle "content governance" when it grows - for what to filter.
I have been curating content for a while now (launched ContentHug in 2015, closed last year as we struggled with part governance and part scaling), and I curate via Revue even now (example: https://www.getrevue.co/profile/...). So, I know the pains of "governance" or curated content!
@vingar Totally. Governance is always a tough part of any community, especially as it scales. Did you write anywhere your lessons from the experience? Could be a good post. :-)
I've always thought that the comment module of PH had great potential has a standalone product and I'm really glad to see it happening :) The only guys around that can give HN a run for their money (I know that's optimistic but hey). Congrats all!

On Deck Daily looks lovely on first sight. Cannot wait to see how it shapes up.
Pros:
Product Hunt for daily tech discussions. Nicely done!
Cons:
On Deck Daily has a long way to go. Make it the Product Hunt of tech discussions - Discussion Hunt!
Fricking FINALLY, a decent alternative to Hacker News – I hope you can build an encouraging/welcoming community here because I love the concept, and that it isn't owned by any sort of entity. Great work, team.
@ow Thank you Owen! Encouraging/welcoming community is what we're going for. :-)

I only read nice things about the On Deck community and what @eriktorenberg is doing so it's cool to see the On Deck Daily community launch today 🙌
It looks like a great platform to interact and discuss more easily than on Twitter 👍

Working on http://wooitbooit.com/ which actually gives a better presentation to debates and opinions.
Thanks @thinker@rubenharris@bentossell@alexshye@eriktorenberg !
Appreciate the deep dives and AMAs so far--good stuff.
I like that ODD has multiple days of content (which is an improvement over VentureNews) although I wonder if there's too many links on the page from previous days.
In terms of initial engagement, I wonder if you could leverage the user's Twitter network. It's nice to know a link has X upvotes, but FB's upvote design mentions your friends by name. ODD's network is small enough such that knowing that @alexshye upvoted something may mean I'm more likely to engage with the platform after signing up as a new user.
(As it is, I wonder if I would just forget about ODD, if I didn't happen to know the makers :)
Re: graphic design, it's tricky to get the upvote/comment iconography to work well. I like the simplicity of the upvote and comment, but I wish it could be a little more readable.
Facebook web separates the action buttons ([👍 Like] and [Comment]--which you can click on--from the count and "Alex Shye, Nick Frost, and 3 others like this" below it.
Twitter uses whitespace between button and count-signifier, and high-contrast wireframe styled icons.
Reddit radically separates the upvote from the comment action.
Obviously I think the project is neat but I wish there were a better feedback mechanism. Maybe a permalink /post/0 for product feedback and discussion? like a https://meta.slashdot.org/ for discussion about the product itself.
http://www.ondeckdaily.com/about asks for feedback but doesn't give you an actionable way to do it--would you prefer we post here on PH, email, twitter, or ODD? :)
I also noticed some posts seemed like AMAs (http://www.ondeckdaily.com/post/91) but weren't tagged as such. Didn't know how to give that feedback without polluting the comment stream.
Anyway, good luck! Happy to sketch out more these designs, give product feedback, ideas on AI/ML approaches, business models or whatev 🤓
