An elegant, native iOS video player designed to handle heavy media files beautifully. Natively plays MKV, MP4, AVI, and WebM without annoying conversions. Connects seamlessly to your Mac, PC, Plex, Jellyfin, or SMB servers to stream over Wi-Fi without taking up your iPhone storage. Features interactive subtitles—just pinch to resize or drag to reposition—plus true picture-in-picture, background audio, and lip-sync audio correction. Clean, powerful.

How does it handle really large MKV files over SMB, any lag or buffering issues on typical home wifi? Also curious if there's a free tier or is it paid upfront.
@n_eslem68217 Hey! Great questions.
Large MKVs over SMB: LUX handles them smoothly by utilizing hardware acceleration to process heavy bitrates over typical 5GHz home Wi-Fi. I’ve specifically tuned the network buffering to ensure that scrubbing forward or backward feels snappy even on larger files!
That being said, I am currently working on a massive core upgrade. This upcoming update will dramatically lower power consumption, optimize battery life, and introduce advanced video rendering (like automatic light enhancement for darker scenes). It will also unlock highly requested features like advanced subtitle styling/customization, subtitle support while casting, and an even smoother Picture-in-Picture (PiP) transition.
Pricing Structure: It is completely freemium! There is no upfront cost at all. You can stream your media and use the core features entirely for free with ads. The premium tier is strictly an in-app purchase to remove those ads, so you can fully test it with your home server without paying a dime.
I'd love for you to try it out with your current media setup and share your thoughts! 🍿
Pinch-to-resize subtitles are a game changer for me, and it handled a 20gb MKV from my Plex server without a single stutter. Finally a player that just gets it.
@bavcichali87886 Thank you so much! Hearing that a 20GB Plex stream played perfectly is exactly why I built LUX. I wanted to eliminate the "format not supported" headache completely without the need for bloated workarounds.
I'm also thrilled that the pinch-to-resize subtitles are hitting the mark for you! Knowing what specific features resonate with you is incredibly helpful. I'm actually working on a major core update right now that will bring even more subtitle customization (like custom styling and casting support).
Thanks for taking the time to test it out with your heavy files—I really appreciate the support!
