I believe the best light is the light you always have on you. Many of us always have our phones on us, and I always found iPhones and iPads to be the perfect companion devices when on set filmmaking. Not only did they house all my scripts and production documents but they also always made a great light source when in a pinch. So I always found myself using iPhones and iPads in unique ways to try to create different lighting effects on camera, whether it was by holding an orange flickering iPad off screen to simulate fire, or whipping the flash light passed an actresses face to simulate lightning, these devices were always available at the right time and I always thought that if we had greater control over the screens and lighting hardware, iOS devices would make the perfect soft box light sources. The idea for Light Kit Pro goes back as early as March 2019 when I first wrote out the idea, and in April 2026 I am happy to say that Light Kit Pro has finally been brought to life. With the help of tools like Cursor and Claude, it made it possible for me to bring Light Kit Pro to fruition in months. This project was a testament to what can be accomplished when someone with a vision is utilizing some of the most powerful A.I. coding tools on the market. It shows how when the friction of the coding process is removed and a creative is given frictionless control over the coding process, you end up with a product with a level of cohesion that is hard to achieve in larger production environments. I also think my deep understanding of iOS hardware also enabled me to fully utilize the core features of the hardware enabling for advanced networking. Light Kit Pro was built using over 4.3 billion tokens across 10,000+ AI-assisted development iterations — equivalent to several years of traditional development — resulting in a cinematic lighting and mobile virtual production platform for iOS.
