Getting a compliant passport/visa photo in Japan is oddly hard: exact size, precise head height, plain background. One wrong margin = a rejected application. Kotopig Visa Photo turns any selfie into a spec-compliant photo in under a minute — AI background removal + auto face alignment, matched to Japan's visa, zairyu card, driver's license & resume specs. 100% on-device: your photo never leaves the browser until you pay for the print-ready file. 中文/日本語/English, pay-once from ¥300.

How does the AI handle glasses or head coverings since some of those specs can be pretty picky about it?
@ykselzunsayqmg Great question! Our AI focuses on the parts people most often get wrong on their own: it removes and replaces your background with a compliant white or blue, then detects your face to automatically align and crop the photo to the exact head height, top margin, dimensions, and DPI the Japanese spec requires.
What it doesn't do is alter your face — so it won't remove glasses, erase lens glare, or add/remove head coverings. Those need to be correct in the photo you upload. For the Japanese visa/passport specs specifically:
- Glasses: We recommend taking the photo without them. If you keep them on, make sure your eyes are fully visible, the frames don't cover your eyes, and there's no glare or reflection on the lenses.
- Head coverings: Not permitted except for religious or medical reasons. If worn, your full face — from the top of your forehead to the bottom of your chin — must be clearly visible with no shadows.
The good news: you can upload, preview, and re-process as many times as you like before paying, so the easiest approach is to take a clean shot (glasses off, no hat) and let the AI handle the background and framing. If anything looks off in the preview, just retake and try again at no cost.
Tried it with a messy bedroom selfie and it nailed the zairyu card dimensions on the first try, head height was spot on. Wish I had this before my last trip to immigration.
@kardelen415764 This made our day — thank you! Getting the head height right is exactly the part that trips people up at the immigration counter, so it's great to hear it nailed your zairyu card on the first try (messy bedroom and all 😄).
Next time you need one for a renewal or another document, you know where to find us. And if you ever hit a spec that isn't in our presets yet, let us know — we're always adding more.
Thanks again for giving it a shot and taking the time to share!
Tried it with a quick selfie and the head height alignment nailed the spec first try, which is way easier than my last attempt at a convenience store photo booth.
@ferdifbni Love hearing this — thank you! Those convenience store booths are unforgiving (and you only find out it's off after it's printed). Getting the head height right from a casual selfie is exactly what we built this for, so it's great it landed first try.
When you print the L-size layout at a konbini, you'll get the same booth-quality result for a fraction of the hassle. Thanks for trying it out and sharing — it genuinely helps! 🙌
