I’ve been part of the open-source and self-hosted communities for a while and stumbled upon Kalmia when searching for a fast, user-friendly documentation tool that uses something like docusaurus underneath. What caught my attention was its simplicity and the fact that it's AGPLv3 licensed, meaning it’s completely free to customize and host yourself.

@jase_huang We’re currently working on adding export features, allowing users to export documentation at any point, either as a zip file or directly to a Git repo. This would let them easily host it on platforms like GitHub Pages or Cloudflare for free. For collaborative editing and version control, Kalmia uses a database. Multiple people can edit the same document simultaneously, and everything is built and synced in real-time. Versioning is also super simple—it can be done with just one click at any time (the entire documentation set is cloned from where you started a new version). We’ve got more features planned, so stay tuned!

@new_user__330202361305144c07d45c0 Thank you so much! Yes, Kalmia is definitely geared towards teams. You can create multiple users, and we also support OAuth for Google, Microsoft, and GitHub. Each user can have their own roles (admin, or custom roles with read, write, and delete permissions, which you can mix and match). This was a key focus for us since Kalmia was created to reduce the friction for non-technical people when writing documentation.

User-Friendly for Non-Developers: A lot of tools out there assume your entire team knows Git, Markdown, or other technical processes. With Kalmia, anyone—whether they’re technical or not—can jump in and contribute to documentation without needing to touch Git or know Markdown. We also offer granular permissions, so you can control exactly who has access to what. 2. Simple Versioning: Many platforms make versioning painful or discourage it altogether. In Kalmia, it’s as simple as one click, allowing teams to manage multiple versions of their docs without any hassle. 3. Speed: Kalmia is built for speed. We’re seeing build times 80-90% faster compared to popular tools like Docusaurus, and our Rust-based backend ensures that even large documentation sets build in under 4 seconds. 4. Self-Hosting & Cost Efficiency: For teams that want full control over their documentation, Kalmia is free, open-source, and extremely cost-effective. Instead of paying high subscription fees, you can self-host it on an affordable server. As for integrations, they’re definitely on our roadmap! We’re planning to integrate with popular project management tools to streamline workflows and make Kalmia even more versatile in real-world applications. That said, we also want to keep things flexible—so users can work with their favorite tools without being locked into a specific ecosystem.
