Projects with social or environmental impact are always a green light for me. I know Ecosia has a similar project. Were you inspired by them, or are you offering something on TOP [in terms of eco improvements]?
@busmark_w_nika appreciate it! Yes I was really inspired by ecosia.
I would say it's hard to offer something better than them in terms of eco improvements, but what sets us apart from ecosia is that you don't have to change anything in your daily routine. No need to change your search engine, which also means you can run idleforest together with ecosia :)

Hi Daniel,
Can you share how the extension is interacting with the computer. What data is sent back to Idleforest and your third parties. Also, how the bandwidth is being utilized by the third parties? Will a lot of unknowns, this extension gives me pause in allowing this to run in a corporate environment.
@keith_richard2 Hey, No Personal Data is being sent to us or out partners. Obviously, if you sign up via email, that's information we will have.
Basically, loads a website request from one of the companies in a sessionless manner, and sends the html back.
These requests run in a different context, so there is no overlap between your data and the data that's being collected ( example would be the price of a fridge on Amazon, the URL would be opened and that information would be sent back)
Hope this explains it!

Really interested idea to drive a combination of technology and environment-protection! Can't wait to see my first tree!
@sentry_co Your shared bandwidth enables companies to access websites from specific countries to gather public data they need (like product prices). For example, a company might need to see product prices on Amazon Spain. The websites are opened in a sessionless manner, ensuring no personal data is transmitted. We have strict rate limits and bandwidth checks to maintain your browsing experience, and all accessed domains are checked against a security blacklist.
@daniiba Fair enough. So it's a distributed scraping network. To avoid rate limits, geo-fencing etc. What happens if my IP gets banned from Amazon for bot activity? I think some clarity around side effects here would make this more white-hat. I laud the plant tree effort. But it's a gray area. So I think more clarity around what people sign up for would be the way to position this. Most people don't understand this kind of tech and its effects. # my 2 cents 😸
@sentry_co Hey, great question. We have ratelimits in place per user and per website to prevent these sideeffects, but its a good point and I will add that to our FAQ. We also have an explainer video that goes a bit more into detail on how our network works ;)

Congratulations @daniiba !
I downloaded this, even though I've never planted a tree in real life yet :)

@pritraveler thank you :) that's exactly what we want to achieve!

Interesting concept. How does it work? What is the excess bandwidth used for?
