Hey, @stefanoscozzese! Thanks for the early access (I feel special). :)
Your approach is very interesting. I've browsed through DJ profiles like Steve Aoki, deadmau5, and Mord Fustang and it feels like I'm getting an "backstage pass."
That said, the music space is suuuuper competitive and filled with skeletons. Why does iam.dj need to exist?
Please continue playing the next song in the activity stream. Also how can i filter by song length? (to fetch only mixes)
Disclaimer: I am a heavy soundcloud and mixcloud user
@stefanoscozzese , I have to agree with @rrhoover and @dshan - the onboarding is far too heavy. A recommendation would be for you to show the most popular DJs up top to minimize friction.
This is interesting for me because I recall being a part of your first beta launch attempt in 2011 back when progressive house was first starting to take on mainstream attention. Your site was just a barebones site with a freeform sign-on process. Amusingly, I remember claiming "Avicii" and "Afrojack" as usernames.

> What were the biggest failures of your last iteration
Thanks for reminding me those 6 crazy days :)
it was not a really failure, but a viral experiment, same as the first landing page of about.me. The platform went "out of hand", we couldn't control it, we were not ready to receive such an incredible hype in such a short time.
> What is your ultimate goal with this one?

DJs do not need another tool to manage. We created a simple idea to connect all their fans and to make sure they do not waste their contents and fans into too many generalist platforms, collecting all into one single spot.
Step by step we will add interactions, but the main content will always be generated by certified DJs.
> How do you plan on monetizing beyond ad placement?
After taking all fans we should be ready to implement a ticketing system and become a focused and special platform for the EDM ticketing ($ 2.5 BN annually)
We believe that for fans it would be extremely cool having the chance of "buy your tickets from Dj xxx”
Thanks to @rrhoover and @dshan for the feedbacks about the signup process, we will definitely work to quickly improve the on boarding flow.
Thanks to @stefanobernardi for believing in us from the beginning ;)

This is a cool idea, I find it very promising, I'm a heavy soundcloud user too.
I kind of disagree with what was being said about the onboarding process, I really enjoyed selecting the djs before being able to do anything, especially because I found almost every DJ I'm into (maybe 10 is a bit too much though).
Doing a popular list would have been a big turn-off for me because it would have been Steve Aoki and other crappy "djs" on top of the list and I would have left immediately. I think having a menu with subgenres is a better idea (with a Popular section in it maybe).
In a one-liner: don't push american EDM too hard or I think you'll never attract Resident Advisor audience.
One question: A lot of the mixes I listen to (for example BBC Essential Mixes) are uploaded by random users on Soundcloud, so I guess i'll never find it on your platform?
(<3 Kangding Ray on your homepage)
I'm having a real tough time signing up due to the hard limit on 10 DJs. It's high, but also most of my favorites - at varying levels of popularity - aren't an option. (Gigamesh, Poolside, Nicolay, ASTR, Dawn of Midi, Danger, Gramatik, Kaytranada, Chromeo, RAC ... even Daft Punk are missing.) So it's not just "10 DJs you like", it's "10 DJs that you like and we've signed up manually"?
And my experience with things like Pandora and even Twitter make me hesitant to "+Respect" people I don't know for fear of training the site poorly or just filling my feed with spam.
Counting down negative numbers is a (minorly) demoralizing way to mark my progress toward 10 :) Also, confusing. For a minute I thought I'd selected more than 10 and found a bug where the number goes negative and doesn't let me continue.
Is it a bug that while signing up, I can click the artists' name/URL? It changes the browser URL, eg https://lab.iam.dj/soulclap, but that has no other effect. I was expecting to get at least more info on the artist, if not hear clips as others have suggested here. Would be especially useful given that by the end, I'm forced to respect DJs I haven't heard before.
+1 to continuous play. I want to explore, connect, and listen all in the same place.
BTW, I don't want to sound too negative here. I love the idea of a "friendfeed for artists." Looking forward to future updates.
