Canadian HR + payroll that actually handles Canada. CPP2 at the right rate, Quebec on QPP, ROE XML Service Canada accepts, T4 e-filing, province-aware vacation pay, the whole stack. Built for companies hiring 5β100 people within Canada.
Hey Product Hunt!!
I'm Stephen, founder of Hibiscus HR. We just went live, and I wanted to bring it to this community first because I'm looking for the kind of feedback that makes products sharper: what's missing, what's wrong, what would make you (or a Canadian friend running a company) actually pull out a credit card.
What are we?
An HR and payroll platform built from scratch for Canadian small and mid-sized businesses. Every feature (payroll, onboarding, offboarding, benefits, performance, compliance) is written against Canadian rules. It's not a US tool with a Canadian province dropdown bolted on.
Why we do what we do?
Every Canadian SMB I talked to before I started this was running payroll in a spreadsheet and compliance in their head, because the alternatives were too expensive, too enterprise, or too American. CPP2 withheld at 5.95% instead of 4%. Quebec employees on CPP instead of QPP. Vacation pay at 4% in Saskatchewan when the right answer is 3/52 (β5.77%). ROEs filed the week after Service Canada's five-day window closed. Every one of those has a back-pay order waiting at the end of it.
Under the hood
- **Payroll** β CPP + CPP2, EI, federal + provincial tax, QPP + QPIP + reduced EI for Quebec. T4 e-filing to CRA. CPA-005 direct deposit files.
- **Compliance library** β every tenant ships with pre-built reminders for ROE deadlines, T4 filing, CRA remittances, WHMIS expiry, and more. Automation, but specifically for Canadian HR.
- **Offboarding** with Service Canada-compatible ROE XML, not a PDF you re-key at 4 pm on day five.
- **Employees / onboarding / benefits / performance / time & attendance** β the full stack, with org charts and self-service.
- Integrations with Slack, Teams, QuickBooks Online, and Xero.
Free tools, 5 of them to be specific!
Province-aware calculators for overtime, severance, CPP + EI, statutory holiday pay, and vacation pay β live on the site. Use them even if you never buy the product: hibiscushr.ca/tools
**Who it's for**
Canadian SMBs with 5β100 employees hiring within Canada. Especially multi-province companies where the compliance surface gets brutal fast. If you've ever Googled "vacation pay Saskatchewan" at 9 pm on a Thursday, you're the target.
**Who it's NOT for**
If you're a 500-person enterprise, you need Ceridian. If you only hire in the US, there are better tools built for you.
**The ask**
I want to hear what's broken. If you're a Canadian founder, HR lead, or bookkeeper:
- What's missing that's a deal-breaker for you?
- Where does the copy on the site feel off?
- What would you need to see before you'd trial it?
And if you know someone running a Canadian company who's stuck in spreadsheet hell β sending them the link would mean the world.
Thanks,
SH
