Hi Product Hunt 👋, If you're someone who's reluctant to provide third-party access to your emails, this might be for you! We built this app out of a personal need—our email inboxes were always getting cluttered, and nothing on the market met our standards for privacy. It seems we aren’t alone; lots of folks are dealing with inbox anxiety, swamped with clutter and endless emails, often long before hitting storage limits. And all this with no easy and private way to clean it up! GoodByEmail is here to make that process painless, quick, and privacy-focused! To clarify, we take privacy extremely seriously. So much so that you'll need to download your emails from your email provider for our AI engine to analyze them. Why? Because we never upload your emails to our servers. That's right—No OAuth tokens, no invasive permissions. Your emails never leave your computer. You can even use GoodByEmail offline. It's a small manual step for a major boost in privacy. But here’s the real deal—while most solutions in the market are are solely focused on unsubscribes, we dive deep, providing insights into the biggest offenders filling up your inbox, not all of which are subscriptions. This helps you know exactly what to delete, giving you more control, and yes, we’ve also sprinkled in a handy unsubscribe option 😉. Steps summary: 1. Scanning: Export your inbox from your email provider and scan it with GoodByEmail — an export guide is available on our website. No email logins or OAuth tokens needed. It even works offline! 2. Analyzing: GoodByEmail’s interactive dashboard helps you discover your Top Offenders and mailing lists you can unsubscribe from. Filter, sort and see who's taking up space, how many emails they've sent and when they last emailed you. 3. Cleaning: Now you know who’s cluttering your inbox and it’s action time! Mass-delete emails from unwanted Top Offenders. Unsubscribe from undesired mailing lists. And Voilà—you’ve reclaimed GBs storage! Please give it a try and let us know what you think. We're here to answer all your questions and to take in your valuable feedback. 🙏 Thank you for checking us out!

@celue I was just looking for something like this and hated having to give access to my inbox- it feels too personal! Love this idea and I’m going to try it out tomorrow on desktop

@itspatzer Hi Martha! 😊 Awesome to hear! Can't wait for you to try it out tomorrow. Let us know how it goes. Happy safe cleaning!

@celue Update after my previous comment: This app is awesome! I've freed up over 12 GB and 280k emails! The funny thing is, out of my top 10 offenders, only two were a subscription-type of email. The unsubscribe tools I've tried have never picked up my actual offenders. PS: I've left a review just now. Keep it up team!

@j_moreira Hi Jorge, that is amazing to hear! Thank you for using GoodByEmail! 😍

Congratulations on launching GoodByEmail! As someone wary of privacy with email tools, I really appreciate your approach keeping data local. One question - after cleaning up my inbox initially, is there a way for GoodByEmail to regularly scan for new clutter over time? Or do I need to manually re-download and re-analyze as new emails come in?
Pat Eskinasy
@sarvpriy_arya Thank you for the kind words Sarvpriy! 😊 We're glad you value our focus on privacy. To answer your question: Yes, for now, you would need to manually re-download and re-analyze as new emails come in. The manual steps are intentional and designed to keep your data truly yours. Any service promising to regularly scan your inbox usually will require your login credentials or OAuth tokens of some sort. Those are permissions to read your email content. With those in place, your data is fetched by their backend, passing through their servers, introducing privacy risks. Our approach ensures your emails never leave your control or environment. By opting for manual re-analysis with GoodByEmail, you're taking a proactive step in maintaining your own privacy. It's a trade-off, but we believe it's invaluable for the sake of ensuring your emails stay completely private. Hoping that sheds light on why we do what we do. Would love to hear if you have more insights or questions.

@celue Currently trying the free version. It might be helpful to display storage by attachments. Currently, it says total space used, but how can I tell if it's my messages or messages with attachments? The results display a list of the sender's address, but there is no information that explains why they are being listed. Top senders, largest file most recent, or what?
Pat Eskinasy
@andrew_brodsky Hi Andrew, Thanks for diving into the details with me—love discussing products with fellow product enthusiasts! Let's tackle your second question first. The results table gives a rundown of all the email addresses that have ever reached out to you. For our paid users, it dives deeper with stats like total space used, the volume of emails sent, and even an unsubscribe link. Your top 10 'space-takers' (we call them offenders) are upfront, but you can skim through all entries. Using filters, you can sort by size, volume, or the latest email date, helping with your decluttering. About attachments: While analyzing by sender, you can see who's taking up space and how. Our decision not to flag attachment stats is intentional. A sender might have a high volume of tiny emails or a few heavy ones. Like in my case, one sender shot me 25,000 emails (no attachments) taking up 1.8GB! Yet, old emails from my mom, stuffed with photos and nostalgic PPTs, consumed close to 1GB. My action? Kept mom's emails, ditched the bulky ones from the unwanted sender. Hope this sheds light on our approach. Let's keep the feedback loop going! Cheers!

@celue Just to be clear the biggest email offender in my box is ello@producthunt.com? I have hard time believing that based on the amount of email my wife sends me. See attached https://imgur.com/a/tSMBJhp
Pat Eskinasy
@andrew_brodsky Just to clarify: In the free version, you'll see a list of all your email senders, but it's in a randomized order. The senders you are now seeing are not your top offenders. We've covered this in our FAQ : https://imgur.com/a/8ZdbHmv but I absolutely agree – this information could be more accessible within the app. Note taken. Loving the feedback, keep them coming!

Had subscribed to the launch but didn't look into it properly until now. Congrats folks, I would never ever provide my logins to any email cleaner. Finally a product that may help declutter my inbox (I got over 1 million emails in it). If I get it correcttly, I think knowing the 'top offenders' is what I am after to free up space, unsubscribe was never enough. Will try to export my mailbox now.

@j_moreira Hi Jorge, Thanks so much for the kind words! Let us know how it all goes. Happy safe cleaning! ✨
Vittori
nice one! Congrats!
Pat Eskinasy
@alighned79 Thanks Vittori!
James Dory
Is there an iOS version?
Pat Eskinasy
@james_dory1 Hey James! 😊 Thanks a ton for your interest! Right now, GoodByEmail is optimized for the desktop. Why? Because tackling the whole history of someone's email is a hefty job that mobiles aren't quite cut out for. Also, those other mobile solutions? They just skim the surface, usually handling only recent messages (normally, just a few thousands e.g. up to 30 days). So, while mobile has its perks, for a deep-clean of your inbox, our privacy-first desktop app is your go-to 🌟
