We looked at GitLab too, mainly for the built-in CI, but stuck with GitHub since that's where most contributors and reviewers already are. For a project whose whole point is "don't just trust the vendor," having the commits, issues, and changelog sitting somewhere public and familiar mattered more than any feature difference.
