I'm Thomas, co-founder of Giraffe Gold. Here's the real story.
I grew up in the Midwest. Owning gold wasn't something my family talked about — I genuinely thought it was just for collectors or people who wore too much jewelry. If you'd asked me at 25 how to buy a gold bar, I would have said "a pawn shop, maybe?"
That changed when I started dating a Persian girl (now my wife) in Los Angeles. Her family was all about physical precious metals. To them it wasn't an investment strategy — it was just common sense. Real money. Something you could hold. Something that didn't depend on a government not screwing up.
Then COVID hit. Inflation started running wild. My co-founder Matt and I kept talking about gold — how the price was surging, how it made more sense than ever to own some, and how neither of us actually knew how to get any. I looked into it. A 1oz gold bar was pushing $3,000. I didn't have that sitting around. And even if I did — then what? Walk into a pawn shop and hope for the best?
That was the wall. It wasn't that people don't want to own gold. It's that nobody built an accessible way to get there.
So Matt and I built it.
The concept was always the same — a passive, automatic way to accumulate toward a real physical precious metals bar. Contributions, round-ups, no lump sum required. We haven't gutted features or pivoted away from the vision. If anything we've just gotten more focused on it.
