The law itself is free. Access to it...not so much. CourtListener and Harvard's Caselaw Access Project publish U.S. case law as open data, and statutes are on official government sites. What's missing for many people is a single place to search all of it and an easy way to check how a case has been treated by later courts without paying high prices for searching the data and verifying the case law.
