i was fortunate to meet the team @TheFireStop a few weeks back. Charlie, Eddie, Darshan, and Jeff are sophomores in computer science at Princeton, and have built an app that ingests data from fire departments, and enables firefighters to respond to emergencies faster with accurate data in-hand. they are already live with several fire departments, bringing new tech to an industry that desperately needs better end user experiences.
So neat. We don't hear about technology being applied to traditionally non-tech niches like firefighting. It can have a significant social impact if it can make firefighters just a little better at their job.
@nbt thanks for shoutout!
@rrhoover I've been a firefighter since high school. Responding to emergencies with my department, I realized how much info is needed when firefighting to be effective (where are the nearest hydrants? where is the building? are there hazards inside?). I also noticed how clunky and not intuitive current software options were so I set out to build a better solution. Along the way, as we've been building this central cloud database, we've started to see how much else is possible and we are really excited to explore analysis and other applications of the data we are putting together!
