I’m Serhii, the creator of Espanido, and I’m so excited to finally share what we’ve been working on.

Two years ago, I moved to Spain due to the war, and suddenly I had to use Spanish every single day. Even though I learned plenty of words, I froze whenever I tried to form real sentences - most apps I tried just had me filling in blanks or matching words in a game-like format. So I decided to build an app to solve this problem for myself, and hopefully for others, too.

A quick note on the science

Why I built Espanido

Espanido focuses on actively building sentences rather than just memorizing vocabulary. I was inspired by language acquisition research - principles like Active Recall, Contextual Learning, and Chunking - which all point to the same truth: we learn best by using a language, not just studying it. By practicing full sentences, you form stronger memory pathways and start to “feel” what sounds right.
