Greetings, Product Hunters!
Many thanks, @nikkielizdemere, for the hunt! 🙇🏾♀️
I'm Janice, a Software Engineer (shoutout to HashiCorp) and the author behind Diversity Decoded.
THE BACKDROP
This side project began during my first engineering gig. I felt the proffered diversity training didn't speak to engineers and our challenges, so I put together a team workshop. That workshop was soon requested by other engineering teams throughout the company.
Three years later, I've led diversity training for over a thousand engineers and scientists at tech behemoths like Amazon, spicy startups like Qualtrics, conferences like Grace Hopper Celebration, and federal agencies like NOAA. It's been a most excellent, if unexpected, ride.
🔒THE PROBLEM
But throughout the ride, I've heard the same feature request over and over. Engineering leads, managers, VPs, CTOs, and founders shared that while diversity training is excellent for exposure, it's not so hot for execution. They needed a runbook to systematically apply best practices for building inclusive teams.
Enter Diversity Decoded.
🔑THE SOLUTION
Diversity Decoded is a weekly newsletter with short, actionable insights tailored explicitly for engineering teams.
Each week, the newsletter tackles a byte-size goal and offers an action plan to accomplish that goal. And it requires less than 30 minutes a week to complete.
This newsletter tackles each stage of the pipeline, rotating 4-week modules on Sourcing, Interviewing, Onboarding, and Retention.
After completing the 12 modules, engineering teams will have created robust, foundational systems to attract and retain diverse engineering talent.
As an engineer, I love to build.👩🏾💻 Helping tech teams build an inclusive culture is proving to be my favorite project.
FEEDBACK?
I realize this isn't the typical fodder for Product Hunters. But I'm keen to read what y'all think. Thanks for giving Diversity Decoded a look!
Love love love the approach this newsletter is taking! If you asked me where I'd get this information otherwise, I'd probably reach for Twitter and hope to just pick this stuff up via osmosis over time. I honestly don't have a bag of tricks yet for how to improve diversity in my hiring, but these values are important to me, so I'm very excited about this newsletter launch :)
@nickochee! Thank you! You've summed up perfectly the problem I'm hoping to solve!

I just checked out the free issue and I gotta say, this hits the sweet spot. I care about building a diverse team, but it's hard to make the time figure out what that means practically, especially with lots of competing priorities to manage. Diversity Decoded serves up a practical strategy on a silver platter.
@dave_young Many thanks! I appreciate your vote of confidence!

It’s got a great mission and clear focus.
Getting started is easy.
The newsletter provides excellent context for identifying underlying problems and solid advice for how to really change and broaden the diversity (and culture) of your company. But it’s more than that. It’s not just suggesting what you _could_ do. The newsletter reads like a (friendly) kick in the pants. It’s what your going to do, right now!
With solid examples and sound advice, it felt safe and easy to execute real, immediate improvements.
Honestly, this has value beyond the workplace to really any community space.
I would suggest it to anyone looking to both be more inclusive and really improve the quality of the groups they participate in.
@alexander_redinger, this is high praise and MUCH appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to checkout the newsletter!

I see a lot of value in Janice’s efforts to create actionable, diversity-related insights for dev teams specifically. I imagine dev teams potentially reviewing this newsletter at the end of a sprint to see how the team measured up against the action items included. Great work!
@michael94 A diversity retro! Imagine! Thanks so much for taking a look!
