/dev/null started as a live stream from the JetBrains office. On Oct 15, 2026, Nuno Maduro, Brent Roose, Matthieu Napoli, and Pauline Vos built a social network for web developers from scratch in 48 hours, in the open. Sign in with GitHub, share code snippets, like, reply, etc, etc! Hundreds of you sent PRs. Laravel’s Taylor Otwell stopped by mid-stream (“Laravel forever”), and Vercel’s Guillermo Rauch called it “really well done.” Thank you for watching, sharing, and roasting us.

Wild 48 hours. Still processing it, to be honest.
We went viral (Hacker News, X, etc.) using a format most marketing teams wouldn’t touch, precisely because it’s so uncomfortable: raw, unfiltered, no script, just us, locked in a 48-hour live stream showing every bit of it.

Day 2:
People don’t fall in love with a brand. They fall in love with the humans behind it.
@fmerian They did this launch so ad-hoc, but I feel with your reach, you can help push it a bit further :D
Letting people send PRs while you were still building live is what I like about this. It gives the first community a hand in what gets built.
Building it was so fun, but the involvement of the community was the part that made this go from "fun" to "it's actually awesome to use"!
The only open source social network I know :)
And is build by developers (+ Claude, I mean my clone :P) for developers.
I'm a bit late to the PH party here, but dev-null has been a lot of fun. I was around in the early days of Twitter, Forrst, Orkut, and a bunch of other social networks over the years and the same vibes are totally all over this project (or even better since you can actually get in and contribute code yourself!)
So fun to have contributed a few PR's :)
