But, we’re also working on tools to help with trademark and copyright enforcement, landlord/tenant disputes, and building out the pro versions of everything to help lawyers and counselors mow through more disputes as well. @mattmayberry We really really wanted to build something to make 83(b) filings more quick and easy. But legal best practice there requires a wet signature, so unless you want someone from our team showing up at your office...

@tim_chen4 Thanks! Yeah, so it depends on what you say in your letter. If you're disputing the debt, there's a good chance the collector will give up on collecting because they lack sufficient evidence/they don't want to bother. Even if you don't dispute the debt, there's a chance this happens. Collectors don't like dealing with people who know and protect their rights! If the collector does respond, there are a few different routes to take, and we can help you figure out the best one.

@thekerp you can do it yourself. Go to ftc.gov and they're is a pre draft letter you can use. Don't let this company take advantage of you

Yep! Actually, you’re right that you can do it yourself (as you may have even learned from our site.) That’s how we know this works. But… per their reports, people still aren’t doing it. So, we’ve made it even easier with our online interview, and while we were at it we’ve took care to write a letter that leans on a few extra things from the law that their draft leaves out, making ours even stronger. The interview also lets us customize the letter more carefully to each user’s case, and empower them with information as they go. When you run the time and money math on going to the post office to mail a certified letter like everyone really should (Cost: $4-5), we think our price is more than reasonable and accessible.

This is incredible - I can't imagine how many people could benefit from this platform. Debt collectors prey on marginalized groups that often don't have access to lawyers and can't afford legal fees, great to see a team out there putting power back in their hands. Also excited to finally see some innovation in the legal space - if the Juris team keeps this up there will be a lot of unemployed lawyers out there! (maybe they can use a Juris platform to get rid of their student loans..)

@joshua_kameel Thanks for the support! Exactly what we're going for, the helping people, that is, not the unemployed lawyers. Since this is a step lawyers would take anyway we've already working on a pro version that lawyers can use to send letter on behalf of clients. We want pros to amplify their impact by spending their time on more important things than drafting letters and taking them to the post office.

Also, it's worth mentioning that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has recently proposed a rule change to allow collectors contact people via text and email (they're currently limited to phone and regular mail.) If this passes (which it looks like it will) the problem is only going to get much worse.

@petergyrgy1 Thank you for the support! We built DebtSettle to try to level the playing field. "Semi-legal" is a great way to say it. It's legal to pursue collection of a debt, but the protections for debtors built into the same law all require a proactive response. We want to make sure people know they have rights, and make it easy to take action.
