Hey all! 👋 Let us introduce you to our new tool, darklens, which is a lightweight container viewer. We were kind of annoyed by how we weren't able to access our containers to see logs in an instant. Docker commands are fine, but you need to SSH into the server to be able to do it, and manually specify which container you'd like to check out. To save some time, we made darklens. You can use it to check your containers without using SSH keys, entering Docker commands ("oh, shoot, the container I was curious about had - and not _ in it, let's fix that typo and waste 4 more seconds") in the terminal, and trying to figure out container configs in unreadable JSON data. Check out darklens GitHub to try it. It's free. https://github.com/dyrector-io/d... Also, while you're there, give the repository a star. Happy to answer any questions about darklens! In the meantime, a brief FAQ: - Is darklens free to use and open-source? Yes and yes. - What platform does it support? Docker. - What makes it special compared to other container managers? The agent is easy to set up on your infra. The tool is designed to be easy to use with quick on-boarding.

@geri_mate Interesting idea. Good luck!

Doesn't Docker Desktop already have these features?
Geri Máté
@kingromstar Great question, thanks! Docker Desktop isn't for multiple environments and especially not for remote ones. You can add many environments, let it be on-premises or cloud, to darklens

An open-source product release! I assume this is a tool that you mainly developed for Dyrector, isn't it?
Geri Máté
@mho22 Kind of :D dyrector.io didn't have docker inspect until now but we wanted to create it for the platform. Then we realized this could be a useful tool for people who only need to check container logs and configuration. That's where the idea for darklens came from

This tool is a lifesaver. It simplifies container viewing by letting you check my containers without the SSH keys hassle, command-line acrobatics, and JSON deciphering. It's all about saving time and sanity.
Geri Máté
@tanjirrahman Spot on, thank you! That's really what we tried to achieve with darklens!

Congrats on the Launch of @geri_mate !!!! Navigating through containers seems to be a time-consuming task (So I have heard from the lairs of GitHub) and Darklens looks like a fantastic, user friendly tool to streamline viewing logs without the hassle of SSH keys. Q: Considering various user environments have you thought of exploring compatibility with other platforms beyond Docker for wider usability (Target market)? Q: How does Darklens ensure the security of the containers’ data, especially when accessed without SSH keys? (If you can answer as if you are speaking to a 6 year old child that might help me best understand haha)
Geri Máté
@dzaitzow Thank you so much! We tried to offer a more user friendly way to access container information without the small steps that make it a more time consuming process. A: Supporting other platforms, like Kubernetes is within our sight, first we'll have to see if there's demand for it. Right now our priority was to abstract away container log and config access. A: Container configs are delivered through a secure channel (gRPC) that makes darklens able to read the settings of a container. It can't edit any data. This makes SSH access obsolete after the agent is set up on an environment. Also we don't store any container data, only make access to them

@geri_mate Ok good to know and very interesting!
