Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I built comprimirunpdf after getting stuck one too many times with “Max file size: 2 MB” on job applications, government forms and email attachments. Most compressors give you “low / medium / high” and you’re left guessing. Many also make you upload sensitive documents, like IDs, contracts or medical records, to someone else’s server.
What it does:
🎯 Exact target size: type the limit (300 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB…) and it gets as close as possible under it, keeping as much quality as it can.
🔒 No upload: everything runs in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device, and once loaded it even works offline.
✂️ Split by size: turns a huge PDF into parts that each fit the limit.
🩻 PDF X-ray: shows what’s making your file heavy (images, fonts, pages).
📱 Batch files, no sign-up, no watermark, free, and available in 18 languages. You can install it as an app and share PDFs straight to it from your phone.
How it works: pdf.js renders each page, it gets re-encoded as JPEG and pdf-lib rebuilds the document. It repeats this, adjusting resolution and quality, until it hits your target. One honest trade-off: compressed pages become images, so text is no longer selectable. That’s perfect for scans and forms, less so for documents you need to edit.
I’d love your feedback: what limits do you run into most, and what would make this more useful for you? 🙏
