@rrhoover@_jacksmith@semil Thanks for the feedback on the name. We had two drivers. First, everyone has a strong distaste for their current tech support experience. It has to be completely rebooted and name association is a negative. Second, we are serving small business who are intimidated by technology and are just now starting to implement the basics in their stores - they are the rest of America. The name needed to reflect a friendly and accessible place where businesses have been successful. We don’t claim to be branding experts but the response thus far from our customers has been truly positive and ultimately every brand is based on the quality of the experience. But happy to add .io if it would make everyone feel better. Boomtownio yo!
I've been following Boomtown for some time and it's one of the more interesting SMB (small to medium business) focused products that solves a very real pain point: tech support and help for business owners.
What's key to the success of the product is (1) promptness of support through a live video chat and (2) an opportunity for merchants to see various tools or products to help them do their job better. The pricing model is pretty nifty, too: http://www.goboomtown.com/how-it...
@daveambrose I'd also highlight that there's a subscription/SaaS model here, too. Some consumer on-demand startups are layering that in now (e.g. free delivery over $X if you join Munchery Prime, etc.). For B2B, they can start off with that model (potentially).
@semil Agreed and hence my "nifty" highlight :)
Asking any merchant to pay for a service is hard enough, but when pricing is dead simple and there's a clear value exchange, owners are happy to spend. A few of our portfolio companies have a SaaS model in the SMB stack and interesting trend, but many are finding success w. merchants switching from monthly recurring to annual. I think Boomtown can offer something similar as more usage occurs and data to measure against.
Uber for tech support seems like a great idea. No idea where the name came from though; I thought I remembered an app called Boomtown that was like a game for kids or something
