Hey PH 👋 Solo founder here.
I built BiteSpend because my bank app kept telling me "Groceries: $147" and that number tells you nothing. The $87 at Target wasn't $87 of food. It was $32 paper towels, $14 birthday card, $41 actual food.
So I built the tool that reads the receipt directly. AI parses every line item in 5 seconds. Over time you get a personal price map across every store you shop at. Costco wins on paper goods, Sprouts wins on produce, Trader Joe's wins on snacks. There is no single cheapest store, only cheapest per item per household.
Built solo, shipped to both stores May 24-25, $0 marketing budget, 12 weeks of nights and weekends. The stack runs on Gemini 2.5 Flash at $0.0026/scan, which is what makes the free tier real.
No bank linking. No ads. Your data isn't a product.
Bumped Free from 5 to 15 scans/month yesterday based on IndieHackers community feedback. Listening is the whole job at this stage.
Happy to AMA. Would especially love feedback on:
* Free vs Pro split (15 scans + full Stores tab on Free)
* Where you'd hope to see this evolve
* Anything you wish your bank app could tell you about food spending
