What do you think? …

Adam Foosaner
Hello! I’m Adam, the CTO of Backflip. My co-founder and I stumbled on the idea behind Backflip when moving between apartments. ❓ Why we built it: We thought “Why can’t we find someone to just buy all our electronics and take them off our hands today? We should be able to sell them in a matter of minutes by just taking a picture on our phones.” ✅ How it works: Backflip is the first step towards realizing this vision. Now with Backflip.com, you can just bring your electronics to The UPS Store to sell, and no box or shipping label is required. Or UPS will simply come pick it up from your home – and all for free. The name "Backflip” signifies the joy, excitement, and celebration that comes with so easily turning that old box of electronics into usable cash. By "flipping their devices back" into the circular economy, anyone can help reduce e-waste and make electronics more accessible -- all while organizing their belongings and gaining extra spending power to pursue their goals. 👉 How you can get started: Simply go to our website, select your device, describe the conditions and get a quote. Please share feedback, questions, & comment! Excited to hear from you!

?makers how Backflip differ from a service like Gazelle?
Mike Barile
@chrismessina Thanks for the question Chris! At a high level, we have a bigger mission than Gazelle: we're building the Amazon of making things disappear from your apartment. Selling your unused stuff should look similar to how you sell stuff in the Sims; you should be able to “right click” on anything on your home, click “sell”, and it should disappear instantly and you should get paid the same day. Although we have a lot of work left to do in achieving that mission, the MVP product we launched today is already massively differentiated from competitors like Gazelle: - Ease of use: No hassle with packing and shipping your own device; you can bring your device to a UPS store where the store associate will pack and ship it for you (like an Amazon return), or you can have UPS pick it up from your home if it box up your items yourself (they’ll even bring you a label!) - Payouts: We offer payouts that are typically ~30-50% higher than what you’d get for the same item on Gazelle - Time to payout: While Gazelle typically takes 3-4 weeks to pay you out start to finish, we pay folks within 24 hours of receiving their devices and most sales are completed in less than a few days. - Number of items available to sell: We offer over a hundred types of devices for you to sell, while Gazelle focuses on Apple products We have lots of new features on the roadmap that will continue to differentiate our service including courier pickup, same-day-you-create-your-order payouts, and new product categories. More on that soon… :)

?makers Nice work! I've built a so called Asset Valuation Tool that estimates the wholesale price for any given hardware configurataion (lagptops, phones etc.) based on the same type of info you guys use.
Adam Foosaner
@pelaseyed we'd love to check it out! Do you have a link to it?
Ismail Pelaseyed
@adam_foosaner1 It's used as an internal tool at a big ITAD company so unfortunately no.
Adam Foosaner
@pelaseyed No problem - regardless, thanks so much for showing your support for our launch!
Ismail Pelaseyed
@adam_foosaner1 I believe in this space! Keep on keep in’ on :)
Glen Creaser
Very useful! I'll most definitely keep this in mind in the future.
Zach Boven
@glen_creaser Thanks, Glen! We think so too - right now you can just drop off your items using a QR code at The UPS Store or schedule a free at-home pickup. We'll be continuing to build out ways to make it even easier for you to sell your stuff.

pretty design, good luck
Zach Boven
@ayberkbozkus Thanks for the love for our product team!

I'm just curious about the payment guarantee. How do you ensure that?
Zach Boven
@udginsme_egaladonq Thanks for the question! We work with a network of professional resellers to pre-aggregate demand for your used electronics. So you can easily sell all of their items to Backflip without the hassle of traditional marketplaces, and we've already found someone who wants to buy those items on your behalf. As long as the item is in the condition stated when you create your sale, your price is guaranteed!

I just went through this process with Apple. I was going to send them an old computer, and then I realized that they used an outside vendor, which I absolutely do not trust the way I trust Apple. How do you deal with privacy issues?
Mike Barile
Privacy is of the utmost importance to us at Backflip, as it is essential to a safe and secure selling experience. Here are a few of the things that we offer in order to help keep your data safe: - We provide detailed instructions for wiping your devices before sending them in. If you still need help, our support team is available at support@backflip.com Monday-Saturday to help walk you through the steps! - We use industry-leading software to ensure that every device is factory reset before sending them to our network of buyers. - In the rare event that we are unable to completely erase a device, we will contact the original owner and work with them to wipe the device, or send it back free of charge. - Even in the absence of the above, it's almost impossible to break into an Apple device unless it's missing a lock code or password! Thanks again for your question and we hope this helps!
