Author Magic: Mac app that takes a book from idea to KDP-ready files

I publish books through a small imprint, and getting one out the door meant stitching together a chatbot, a word processor, a series-bible spreadsheet, a cover tool and a formatter. Then KDP would reject the files anyway. Author Magic is the one app I wanted instead.

What it does:

• Novels and nonfiction. Start from an idea, a Word or Markdown manuscript, or a blank page

• Set how much the AI writes, per chapter, from "only check my work" to "draft from my brief". You review every change before it lands

• Your writing rules go into every AI request: no em dashes, your spelling, no AI-sounding phrases. A manuscript check catches leftovers before anything ships

• For nonfiction it doesn't make things up. Facts it isn't sure of are marked for you to check

• A story bible tracks characters, places, the timeline and who knows what, and flags contradictions

• The cover studio does AI art or your own image on the real KDP wrap, with the spine width set from your page count

• One button builds the interior PDF, paperback wrap, ebook cover and EPUB, plus a draft of your Amazon listing

A few choices I care about:

• It runs on your own AI key (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter) or a free local model through Ollama or LM Studio. No markup on AI

• Your books are plain Markdown folders on your Mac. There are no servers holding your writing

• No subscription. Founding authors pay what they want until 31 December. After that it's $169 once
