I love tabletop games. The worlds, the characters, the moment a player does something you never saw coming. But if I'm being honest, I'm not naturally good at the creative side of it.
I blank on NPC names. I freeze when players go off the rails. I spend hours prepping and still feel like I'm winging it at the table. For a long time that made me feel like I wasn't "a real GM."
So, I built ArcForge, basically as scaffolding for people like me. It handles the parts my brain isn't wired for (organizing scenes, tracking combat and loot, keeping notes straight, giving me a starting point when I'm stuck) so I can actually show up and enjoy the game instead of drowning in prep. It's not there to tell the story for me. It's there so I stop quitting before I get to the fun part.
I don't think I'm alone in this. So I'm curious:
One thing that would be a huge win for my group is a built-in initiative tracker that auto-rolls and sorts, and lets players see the order in real time on their phones. Right now I am juggling a separate app and it breaks the flow every combat. If ArcForge handled that natively, it would basically be the only tab I keep open on game night.
@devran1288046 This is an amazing idea. There is already the campaign manager that allows the players to see the battle maps (there is a fog of war until cleared by GM), characters, and etc. This is nothing, but an extra tab that would allow more organization for the whole group. I will write this in my notes and start looking at development.
Thank you!
@devran1288046 Hello!
Thank you for the feedback! I don't see my previous response to this, but I mentioned we would look at it. That was a month ago and now ArcForge includes a built-in initiative tracker in the shared battle map. It can pull in the party and encounter monsters, roll and sort initiative, track turns and rounds, and keep the order synchronized on each player’s phone during combat - no separate initiative app needed.
Thanks for being a part of the community and for helping shape ArcForge to its current state.
love that everything is fully editable and not locked behind some rigid system structure, that kind of respect for the gm's creative control is honestly rare to see in ttrpg tools
@kamil295722 Thank you! Yes, the whole point of TTRPG is to use that creative mind. I love TTRPG specifically D&D. I love being a DM but sometimes struggled in certain areas. ArcForge is also made for full immersion, not just for players. I spent more time developing all the free features than the premium features. All creative and manual features will remain free to use unless, we end up just taking major losses. I don't see that happening though. Also all premium features will stay free until out of Beta, ArcForge does not plan to go live until we have at least 1000 active users on a continuous basis.
love that everything's editable down to the core, so it actually fits whatever weird homebrew rules my table throws at it instead of fighting me on it
@sinemtecim Thanks Sinem, yes everything can be changed and not only can it be changed and edited, but as you build out your campaign and take notes. When you go to build your next session it will take those notes in consideration if you choose to use that feature. ArcForge needs active games running. Anyone can connect with me on the discord and discuss certain features or improvements. I have spent the last year developing ArcForge and its brand don't be a stranger!
