This comprehensive guide contains 50+ curated resources and editable templates to empower anyone joining or creating a coliving house β from searching for a house, sourcing members, organizing events, strengthening community, and more.
In a world where information is abundant and free, college begins to lose its appeal. But as humans we still crave a tight-knit community, which is why our generation is so excited about co-living. This is one of the best guides I've read on the topic. Beautifully designed and filled with great info
@hamza_alsamraee SO TRUE - community is everything, and just as the pandemic has changed virtually every aspect of our lives, the way we live & find belonging also deserves to evolve. thanks for the comment & support, super appreciated :)

I know how it hurts to rent a house/apt in the Bay Area or NYC these days. The pandemic discounts are gone, so the rent is too darn high again π€£
Do you have search filters by:
β amount of folks per room
β average sqft per person
β types of bathrooms/restrooms/kitchen (inside the room or at the floor)
β industry focus (I know there are web3-oriented coliving properties, for example)
@george_goognin It's crazy how steep these prices have been and how many arms & legs it takes to find a place to live in any major city now haha
Those are great questions, I'll note per criteria what I think:
β amount of folks per room: generally depends on how long the duration of the coliving house is, people are okay with sharing rooms (2-3 max I'd say) if it's only for a short term, vs. longer term houses (maybe months to 1 year) people would prefer to have their own room. I also tend to find that when people have their own rooms, they tend to stay in rather then come out and spend time in the community so that's another angle to think about
β average sqft per person: if you're looking on Airbnb, you can estimate if a house is comfortable enough for X amount of people. obviously in major cities like NYC or SF, you might not have the luxury of plenty of sq ft, but I usually go off the photos & # of bedrooms to gauge how much space a person will tend to have
β types of bathrooms/restrooms/kitchen: every house varies (since we can't control the build and setup of the house), if a room has a private bathroom inside it, then we would charge that resident more than a room that requires sharing a communal bathroom. depends on what people prefer and I would definitely not try to squish too many people in a house.
β industry focus: (from my previous comments) i think themed cohorts can be super beneficial in bringing people together that you resonate most with, and increase the surface area for collaboration, shared learning, and empathy. you don't NEED to have a theme, I see it as a huge plus. lots of themed cohorts like Launch House or AR House or Brazen Bio hone in on a particular common goal that brings a lot of their cohort members tighter together
